Event: ‘Re-thinking disaster response’ at the World Bank Civil Society Policy Forum
Re-thinking disaster response: how the World Bank and CSOs can work better together via disaster and crisis risk financing
1:30-3pm, April 10th 2019
World Bank Civil Society Policy Forum
Building: I, Room: I 2-250, World Bank Headquarters
The financial management of disasters and crises is a key challenge for developing countries; choices made about how to respond have enormous impacts on poor people. Please join us for a session at the World Bank’s Civil Society Policy Forum to learn what the World Bank and civil society organizations (CSOs) are doing around Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) and how CSOs can and should engage in this growing area.
Speakers from the World Bank, the Centre for Disaster Protection, the Start Network, Mercy Corps and Oxfam will speak about their experiences of DRF, with the overall objective of:
Creating a dialogue between the World Bank and CSOs on DRF and further educating the Disaster Risk Reduction and humanitarian community about how DRF approaches can result in more effective management of disasters;
Understanding the World Bank’s current scope of work in DRF and hearing suggestions for how CSOs can engage in this growing field; and,
Increasing the World Bank’s and other CSOs’ understanding of the role of CSOs in both strengthening DRF processes and as active implementation agents.
