Veronika Bertram
Veronika is Lead Risk Finance Adviser at the Centre for Disaster Protection with a passion for supporting countries on their journey to build financial resilience.
Veronika leads the Advisory & Training team’s country support efforts, providing guidance on disaster risk diagnostics, strategy development, and financial decision-making. She helps countries understand risks, define contingent liabilities, and explore financial solutions to enhance resilience. With experience as a banker, donor, and researcher, she has contributed to the evidence on the impact of risk finance and how donors and the international financial system support countries in financing disaster risks.
Veronika discovered her passion for climate and disaster risk finance during her PhD when she collected household data in Mongolia. She has worked in over 20 vulnerable countries with the German government—the German Development Bank and the German Institute for Economic Research—and the World Bank. She loves connecting dots and people.
Veronika lives in Washington, DC, with her family. A good day for her starts with a hand-ground coffee in the garden and ends with a swing dance.
